What Is a Custom Interval Timer?

A simple interval timer repeats one fixed pattern — a single active duration and a single rest duration — for the whole workout. A custom interval timer lets you chain multiple sets together instead: every set has its own active time, rest time, and number of repetitions, the sets run in the order you arrange them, and the full sequence can repeat for as many rounds as you like. That makes it possible to follow routines that change intensity or exercise type from one phase to the next, rather than forcing your entire session into one work/rest ratio.

Why Build Your Own Workout Timer?

Match any workout structure

Give warm-ups, work blocks, transitions, and cooldowns their own timing. Sets with rest time set to zero run straight through, so even single-phase drills fit the flow.

Rearrange in seconds

Drag the set cards to change the order, remove sets you do not need, and add new ones as your routine evolves. The total workout time updates as you build.

Free, with audio cues

It runs in your browser with no install or account. Turn on the boxing bell for phase changes, or desktop notifications when a segment finishes.

How To Use This Custom Interval Timer

Add your sets, fill in the timing and repeat count for each one, arrange the order, then review the total routine before you start.

1. Add your sets

Create as many sets as you need for warm-up, work blocks, rest phases, cooldowns, or skill drills. Finish the timing on each card before adding the next.

2. Set each interval

Choose the set count, active time, and rest time for every card so the timer matches your routine exactly.

3. Reorder the flow

Drag cards by their handle to change the sequence, and set the number of rounds to repeat the whole workout.

4. Start the routine

Review the total time, press start, and follow the audio cues as each set runs in sequence. You can pause or skip segments at any time.

Routines You Can Build

Because every set has its own timings, one routine can cover the whole session. Here are common ways to structure it.

Circuit training

Create one set per station — for example 40 seconds of work with 20 seconds of transition — then repeat the whole circuit for several rounds.

Boxing & MMA rounds

Set 3-minute work sets with 1 minute of corner rest, and add shorter warm-up or cooldown sets around them with the boxing bell enabled.

Mixed-intensity HIIT

Chain sets with different ratios in one session — such as 30s/30s blocks followed by harder 20s/10s blocks — instead of repeating a single pattern.

Strength training

Use longer work blocks of 60 seconds or more with rest periods that match the recovery you need between lifts.

Warm-up & cool-down

Add single-phase sets for warm-ups, mobility, or stretching with the rest time set to zero so they run straight through.

Repeat the full plan

Set the rounds value and the timer cycles through every set in order automatically, with the total session time shown up front.

Custom Interval Timer FAQ

What is a custom interval timer?

A standard interval timer repeats one fixed active/rest pattern for the whole workout. A custom interval timer lets you chain multiple sets together, where each set has its own active time, rest time, and number of repetitions. The sets run in order and the full sequence can repeat for multiple rounds, so you can build routines that change from one phase to the next.

How is this different from the simple online interval timer?

The simple online interval timer repeats one fixed work/rest pattern with one-tap presets like 20/10 Tabata. This builder chains multiple sets — each with its own active time, rest time, and repeats — then runs them in sequence for as many rounds as you set. Use the simple timer for a quick fixed workout, or this page for routines with multiple phases.

Can I reorder the workout sets?

Yes. Each set is a draggable card — use the drag handle to move sets up or down until the sequence matches your training flow. You can also remove a set at any time and add new ones as your routine changes.

Is this custom timer good for HIIT and circuit training?

Yes. Because every set has independent timings, it fits circuit stations, boxing rounds, mixed-intensity HIIT, strength blocks, and structured plans that combine different work/rest ratios in a single session.

Does it run in the browser without installing anything?

Yes. Build and run your whole routine directly in your browser on desktop or mobile — no app download and no account required. You can turn on the boxing bell for audio cues, and desktop users can enable notifications when a segment finishes.

Can I save my timer and name each group?

Saving timers, custom group names, and spoken group-name announcements during the workout are available in the app version, along with more reliable background timing. The browser version is designed for quick setup and immediate use.
